Editorial Standards

HealthSignals publishes intelligence on regulatory, market and clinical developments in the healthcare sector across Latin America and the United States. Our readers make decisions about capital allocation, reimbursement, market entry and patient access on the basis of what we publish.
This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to, so that they can be checked against what we produce.
1. Sourcing
1.1 Every factual claim is attributed to a source at the point at which it is made.
1.2 We distinguish primary from secondary sources and identify which we are relying on. Primary sources are regulatory filings and dockets, official communications of health authorities and ministries, company disclosures and financial filings, peer-reviewed clinical data identified by trial registration number, and procurement records identified by tender number. Press releases, analyst notes and other publications’ reporting are secondary and are labelled as such.
1.3 Where a primary source is publicly accessible, we link to it. Readers are expected to check us.
1.4 Where two sources conflict, the conflict is stated in the article. It is not resolved silently in favour of the more convenient figure.
1.5 Where a material fact rests on a single source, that is disclosed.
2. Register
2.1 Every claim we publish falls into one of three registers, and the language makes clear which:
Fact — confirmed, published or officially issued, and attributable to a source.
Interpretation — analytical inference drawn from established facts. Marked by explicit language: the pattern indicates, this suggests, appears consistent with.
Speculation — forward-looking extrapolation beyond available evidence. Marked by explicit language: one scenario is, if this trajectory holds.
2.2 Interpretation is never presented with the authority of fact. Speculation is never presented without being identified as such.
2.3 We do not extrapolate from the absence of evidence. That a regulator has not acted is not evidence of what a regulator will do.
3. Numbers
3.1 Figures appearing in an article body, in its tables and in its charts are drawn from a single verified set. The three cannot disagree.
3.2 Currency is stated with its denomination. Where a figure is converted, the rate and its date are given. Local-currency figures are not silently rendered in dollars.
3.3 Percentage changes state their base period.
3.4 Where a figure is an estimate, a projection or a market sizing, its origin is named. We do not publish a number whose provenance we cannot state.
4. Legal sensitivity
4.1 Litigation, regulatory investigations and enforcement actions that have not reached final resolution are described in qualifying terms: alleged, according to the complaint, under investigation, proposed rule.
4.2 We do not characterise the likely outcome of a proceeding that has not concluded, and we do not describe a party as having done what it is accused of doing.
4.3 Where an entity subject to an allegation has responded, its response is carried. Where it has declined or not responded, that is stated.
5. Counterpoint
Every piece of analysis carries the strongest available reading against its own conclusion. Where a development can reasonably be read another way, that reading is given, attributed and taken seriously. This is a condition of publication, not a closing paragraph.
6. Sources
6.1 We prefer named sources and ask for attribution first.
6.2 Where a source speaks on condition of anonymity, the article describes the source with enough specificity for a reader to weigh the claim — the sector, the type of organisation and the nature of the person’s knowledge.
6.3 An unnamed source is not the sole basis for a material factual claim.
6.4 We do not publish the identity of a source who has asked for it to be withheld.
7. Corrections
7.1 Material factual errors are corrected as soon as they are established.
7.2 A correction appears at the foot of the article, dated, stating what was wrong and what it now says. Where the error affected the headline or the central claim, the correction appears at the head of the article.
7.3 We do not silently amend substantive content after publication. Typographical and formatting fixes are not corrections and are not noted.
7.4 Where an article is withdrawn, the page remains, carrying an explanation of the withdrawal.

8. Independence
8.1 HealthSignals accepts no payment, consideration or benefit in exchange for editorial coverage, for the framing of coverage, or for the omission of coverage.
8.2 Commercial relationships do not determine what we cover. Advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners receive no advance sight of editorial content, no right of review and no right of reply beyond that available to any subject of coverage.
8.3 Neither HealthSignals nor any person involved in the preparation of its editorial content holds or trades a direct personal position in the securities of an organisation while it is the subject of coverage. Holdings in diversified collective investment vehicles over which no investment discretion is exercised fall outside this provision.
9. Commercial content
9.1 Content produced for or funded by a commercial partner is labelled as sponsored at the point of publication, in the article and in every listing in which it appears.
9.2 Sponsored content is visually distinguished from editorial content. Labelling alone is not sufficient.
9.3 Sponsored content is not written by the editorial team under an editorial byline, and is not presented as analysis.
